This guide will show you how to replace a type K39 keyboard key. This hinge type is used in the following models:
- Compaq Presario CQ56, CQ62
- HP Pavilion DV6-3000
- HP Pavilion DV7-4000, DV7-6000
- HP G42, G72
- HP Pavilion G4
- HP Pavilion G6-1000
- HP Pavilion G7-1000, G7-2000
- and more!
This hinge comes in black and white versions. That is fine, what matters most is the shape of the hinge piece.
The plastic hinge mechanism must be oriented as shown for it to fit onto the metal keyboard hooks. Note that the circled plastic tabs are on the top of the hinge piece. Don’t open the hinge or the pieces may come apart.
Hook the top of the hinge onto the two metal tabs at the top of the space on the keyboard.
Push down on each corner of the bottom of the hinge until it snaps onto the keyboard.
Set the rubber spring in the center if yours is missing. The key will hold it in place. If your old rubber spring is still in good shape you can skip this step.
Set the key in its place and push down until it snaps on.
