The Elusive DV1000 SATA Hard Drive Connector

Here’s one that is still tripping a few folks up for this model.  It’s widely known among techs and repair shops that the HP Pavilion DV1000 models use an IDE (aka Parallel-ATA) hard drive.  And one of our all-time most popular products, the DV1000 Hard Drive Caddy & Connector  installs that drive.

But a couple of times a year we get a customer with one of the rare DV1000 models that use a newer SATA hard drive, and that hard drive connector won’t fit.  I was just explaining to a walk-in customer just how uncommon their SATA model is, since we sell hundreds of the regular IDE connectors every year.

Fortunately, there is good news, as we have confirmed the correct SATA connector and caddy for DV1000 SATA models, available here as the HP Pavilion DV2000 Hard Drive Caddy & Connector.

Thanks, I think. I have an HP Pavilion dv1000, and I was looking to replace a dead hard drive, and the old drive clearly has SATA not PATA pin configuration. But when I google replacement hard drives for dv1000, all I find are PATA drives, and people claiming these computers had IDE/PATA drives. The explanation that I got one of the rare dv1000 computers with the SATA drives makes sense, makes me feel I’m not going crazy.
